Dermal Fillers
What is a dermal filler?
At Elysian Beauty and Wellness, we use only FDA approved and natural JUVÉDERM® products. These dermal fillers are gel like substances made of hyaluronic acid (a natural component of your skin that results in water retention and skin hydration) and bio-sensitive ingredients. They are injected into the skin to replenish volume loss and improve skin health through elastin and collagen stimulation. They are also used to plump areas, such as the lips, to create fullness for desired cosmetic results.
Why do lose facial volume as we age?
Facial volume loss is a multifactorial problem caused by migration of fat pads, skeletal remodeling and skin thinning. The result of these inevitable changes is sunken spaces and hallows that lead to sagging, wrinkles and folds.
How do I know if dermal fillers are right for me?
Men and women of all skin types can benefit from dermal fillers. If you’d like to improve facial contour and diminish loose skin, wrinkles and folds, dermal fillers may be right for you.
Common areas of treatment include cheeks, chin, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, smoker’s lines, and lips.
Dermal fillers are well tolerated. There are very few contraindications to the procedure. They are not recommended for clients with active skin infections in the treatment area or known allergy to any ingredient. Persons with a history of herpes simplex infections will receive a short course of acyclovir as a preventative to avoid an outbreak.

What can I expect during my dermal filler treatment?
First, numbing cream will be applied over the treatment area and will set for 20-30 minutes. The area is cleansed followed by use of a topical antiseptic. Then a certified injector will use a small needle or micro-cannula to place determined amounts of filler underneath the skin. There will be a pinching, popping, pressure sensation that is mildly uncomfortable with each injection. The filler itself carries lidocaine that helps minimize pain. An antibiotic ointment is applied to the injection sites afterwards.
You should expect your treatment session to last roughly one hour.
What can I expect after my dermal filler treatment?
The exciting and satisfying part of the dermal filler experience is you will see immediate results. These results will last for months or years, depending on the type of JUVÉDERM® filler selected for your concerns.
After your treatment, you may immediately return to most of your normal daily activities. Swelling and redness is common. Avoid partaking in strenuous exercise and intense heat exposure until the redness and swelling have resolved as it may increase these side effects and the chances of bruising.
A one week follow up appointment will address cosmetic results. Occasionally, more filler or removal of filler is done at this time. Filler can be removed with an enzyme that breaks down the hyaluronic acid component.
Are there any side effects from dermal filler treatments?
It is typical to have mild swelling, redness and tenderness that resolves in a few days. In some cases, there may be some mild bruising. Vascular occlusion during a dermal filler treatment is a rare complication but can be corrected when identified. Rarely, a person may develop a foreign body reaction to the injected filler components. There have been some reports of persons with dermal fillers having localized swelling of the filler area after COVID vaccination. According to Harvard Medical School, this uncommon reaction is short lived and can be treated with over the counter antihistamines.
How much will it cost?
Filler is charged by the syringe. Syringes come in 0.55ml or 1.0 ml aliquots. The amount of syringes needed will vary depending on your concerns and goals. Remember discounts are offered after the 2nd syringe and when bundling fillers with other services. Following are typical amounts.
