Personal Story:
On the road of life, we all experience stretches of rocky terrain and unexpected detours. And so this was true for me. After 14 years of marriage, I was heading into the uncharted territory of divorce. Life became difficult to navigate. I found myself trying to balance the demands of single parenthood and the workload of a full time pediatrician. Pediatric medicine is fulfilling and meaningful in so many ways. How couldn’t it be? Helping children lead healthy and happy lives. The problem was that my own children needed me more than ever for the sake of their own health and happiness. My heart and head both told me I needed to make a change. I began working with a life counselor to plan a new career path that would meet the needs of my family, utilize my medical degree, and was aligned with my outlook on life. Although entrepreneurialism has its own challenges, I realized that owning my own practice was a necessary step to reaching my goals.
So one might ask why I would open a practice in a different field of medicine altogether? The truth is- I am not completely. I have always woven holistic medicine into my practice approach. The best care comes with treating an individual as whole taking into consideration the physical, social, emotional and spiritual influences on health. For those with a similar outlook, wellness medicine otherwise known as functional medicine has much to offer. Wellness clinics often offer aesthetic medicine as well.
I have always had the philosophy that inner and outer beauty are inevitably intertwined. The happier and healthier you are, the more beautiful you look on the outside. The reverse also stands true. The better you feel about your appearance, the happier and healthier you are on the inside. I was 43 years old when I divorced. Honestly, I looked and felt terrible. The natural course of aging, the stress of life and the lack of time to exercise caught up with me. A friend encouraged me to try a little Botox to freshen up my appearance. I listened to her and found that something that seemed so insignificant and maybe even a bit self-indulgent led to something so grand. A little boost in my appearance created a whole new outlook on life: One of self realization and confidence. Since then, aesthetic medicine has become an integral part of my lifestyle.
Serendipitously, this career shift introduced me to the most wonderful man that I now call my husband. Bill was the commercial real estate agent that helped find the location for Elysian Beauty and Wellness on Milwaukee’s Eastside. When we met, falling in love was so natural and soon after we married. We are the modern day Brady Bunch Story and I am now the proud mother of six amazing children.
After years in the making, opening Elysian Beauty and Wellness has finally come to fruition.
