Acoustic Wave Therapy

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is not the same as fat. It can affect people of all sizes, even those who are thin or normal in weight. Cellulite refers to the dimpling or puckering appearance of the skin when fatty tissue pushes through fibrous connective cords that attach the skin layer to the deeper muscle layer. Cellulite can affect both men and women, but it is more common in females because of the difference in hormones and distributions of fat.

Between 80-90 percent of women experience cellulite at some point in their lives. It is also more common with aging as skin loses elasticity and our circulation decreases. Cellulite is very difficult to get rid of, and very few treatments have proven to be helpful. Acoustic wave therapy is one of those few treatments.

What is Acoustic Wave Therapy?

OSANO SHOCK is an acoustic wave device equipped with a high-performance compressor. When placed on the skin surface, it delivers an acoustic wave into the underlying tissue. This wave or vibration results in improved blood circulation and disruption of fibrous cords. It initiates an inflammatory process in the skin, stimulating collagen production. The results are a reduction of cellulite, skin surface smoothness, and skin tightening with an over 80% patient satisfaction rate. Acoustic Wave Therapy can be further enhanced with other procedures such as CoolSculpt and CoolTone.

Acoustic Wave therapy using the same mechanism of action is also medically proven to help the healing process and speed up recovery in conditions such as tendonitis and fasciitis. It also a modality frequently used in erectile dysfunction.

How do I know if Acoustic Wave Therapy is right for me?

Most anyone with cellulite is a suitable candidate for acoustic wave therapy. Acoustic wave therapy is not, however, recommended if you suffer from certain medical conditions such as pregnancy, bleeding/clotting disorders, recent steroid injections, and a few others. Acoustic wave therapy is not recommended in those with pacemakers or in areas of metal implants. Dr Albright will do a medical screen at your consultation to make certain that Acoustic Wave Therapy is safe and effective for you.

What areas can I treat with Acoustic Wave Therapy?

Cellulite of the buttocks, hips, upper arms, abdomen, and the thighs are common treatment sites for Acoustic Wave Therapy. Any part of the body with excess fat, loose skin and cellulite can be treated to achieve a more smooth, tighter and contoured look of the skin.

What can I expect during my Acoustic Wave Therapy Treatment?

The technician will apply gel to the treatment area. Gel is necessary to transfer the acoustic waves efficiently. The probe head will pass over the surface of the skin, resulting in minimal to no discomfort. Most clients describe the feeling to be like a vigorous massage. Treatments take approximately 10-20 minutes per area, and multiple treatments can be done in a single session to meet your needs.

What can I expect after my Acoustic Wave Therapy Session?

You can resume your normal activities immediately after your Acoustic Wave Session. Side effects include mild pain, swelling, numbness, and redness over the treatment area that lasts up to 48 hours. Acoustic Wave Therapy has a very high satisfaction rate. Over 89% of clients have reported excellent results in the appearance of their skin and reduction of cellulite.
